Buenos Dias (I'll be global and write in the current time zone of the reader)
Since it has been a month and a few days since I have posted on this blog it might seem that I have dropped of the face of the earth and left the world to those that have been keeping busy, but alas, I have not. I am alive and hungry and never resting and not skating.
Yes indeed, not rolling on my size 10 feet (US). The reason for this being that I managed to snap the cuffs of my 7 year old skates that were so very loyal to me all these years. Time got hold of them. Rest in Peace USD's!
The event where this unfortunate tragedy occurred however was a very joyous occasion and I will lie if I say that me not being able to roll at my very best spoiled the fun and games of a weekend gathered by some of the most talented people this country has to offer. In terms of rollerblading, skateboarding, bmxing and break dancing that is.
The MyCulture Resurrection Jam '09 was held over the weekend of the 18th & 19th April at the Hartbeespoort Holiday Resort in... you guessed it, Hartpeespoort Dam. The main attraction was the skate park at the top of the hill, the old remnants of Kyalami Skate park that has found a new home and a lot more sunshine. Big Boxes and a 8ft quarter pipe caused some of our local heroes to really show of some of their talent. The rollerblading comp saw Jozi local Frank Joubert take first place with his consistency and huge tricks on everything the park had on offer. Frank can be seen in his spare time throwing monster 5's out of the Monte bowl. Go Frank! Close second was Chris van der Merwe from Stellenbosch, who threw down some serious hammers, including a 900 over the box. Great meeting you at last man!
Seeing as I do photography, I decided to take photos. I asked Carla (MyCulture mag and event organizer) if I should do portraits of everyone involved and she was super keen. So on Saturday and Sunday I took pics of everyone that managed to stumble through my porta-studio dustbin rig, and the odd few that I managed to convince into letting me take their portrait (thanks to mullet guy). I have been busy editing these for the last month or so and have completed the collage of everyone that I got to snap over the weekend. I am busy with a selection of these that I am turning into some great individual shots. Will post that series as soon as I am done.
A selection of these will be printed and I am putting them up all over the studio.Going to look great!
Now I need to ask a favor of everyone in these photos. I need names. Since this is something that I am lacking. If you could mail me and send me your name and where you are, that would be amazing. If you spot a friend send him a mail and ask them to mail me.
To make the identifying process easier for me, let's start at top left. That will be row one, column one. So spot yourself, give me the row and column number and what number from the left you are.I am going to do a A1 poster of this and dropping the names on will be awesome.
I will appreciate everyones involvement.
Thanks again to everyone that was willing to give a quick pose/smile for the camera!
